AS OBJECTS & PLACES RELATE TO ONE ANOTHER, ALSO RELATE TO US.
The way that colors interacts with one another, the influence of light and shadow on objects of various textures, everything affects the way we see things, these are the characteristics I want to bring forward and express in my paintings.
The subjects of my paintings are chosen not only for the relationship of the objects within, but also how they might relate to the viewer. Familiar objects or locations as subjects, allow the viewer to reexamine these relationships, seeing them again, maybe for the first time. Nature inspires me, the brilliance of a flower, the tranquility of a field. I want to bring attention to what can be easily overlooked.
Currently living in central California, I find the light here can reinvent a landscape, allowing me rediscover familiar vistas literally see them in a new light.
Plein Air painting (painting out doors on location), is a particular passion. I have painted all across this country and in Europe, including painting with the Plein Air Painters of America. I find that painting on location and with other artists is a source of inspiration as well as a source of joy.
